When I first started working at T-Mobile/ Octopus Interactive, we were all remote due to the pandemic. The creative team's manager decided as a way for the team to get to know each other better, we would do some fun team side projects. I worked with one of the junior designers on this project. I came up with the concept and game mechanic. We both immediately wanted to do pixel art, which we had never done before. And she wanted to learn some frame by frame animation, so I taught her some basics and we made this all frame by frame in photoshop (the job had limited options for software).

We split the work: I illustrated all the backgrounds and animated the bubbles. She animated the rest of the background. She designed and I illustrated the character. And we split the frame by frame animation of the actual character. She did the idle up and down swim and I animated the sad and happy reaction states. I also composited everything and did the motion graphics elements, like the text animation.
